Cold Iron Studios - Concept Artist (2024-2025)
- Senior Concept Artist. Env Focus, but also Storyboards, char design, and UI concept on a major Sci-fi IP.

Halberd Studios - Concept Artist (2023)
- Concept Art for an unannounced Game.

Hellbent Studios - Principle Environment Concept Artist (2019 - 2023)
- AAA Budget Stylized MP Live service 4V1 game, and several others. While I mainly head up environments I also worked on character illustration, weapons, marketing art, and sticker illustrations.

Axis Studios/343 Industries - Concept Artist (2022)
- World development and keyshot concept artwork for Halo Infinite: Echoes within Cinematics.

WildBrain/SEGA - Concept Artist (2021)
- Pitchdeck concept art for Sonic Prime.

Blackbird Interactive-  Concept Artist and illustrator (2018-2019)
- Worked on one of the most popular AAA video game IPs in the world, Crossfire.

CAPCOM - Senior Concept Artist (2017-2018)
- Worked directly for CAPCOM as a character and environment
designer on several unannounced AAA games.

DHX Studios/CAPCOM/Dentsu - Concept Artist and Designer (2017-2018)
- Worked closely with capcom on a 3dcg tv adaption of the Iconic video game
 franchise, Megaman.

RIOT Games/Axis Animation - Freelance Concept Artist (2017)
- Concept art for the future of League of Legends.

Discovery Channel/Tencent - Concept Artist/illustrator (2017)
- Concept work and Keyart for a conference on the future of gaming in China.

Microsoft Studios- Concept Artist (2016 - 2017)
- Brought in early to steer the direction of Gear’s 5’s environments.

Team Ninja - Character Designer (2015 - 2016)
- Designed Costumes for several characters of the beloved fighting
game franchise Dead or Alive. A costume I designed became most popular of that season.

Axis Studios/Flaunt/Polygon Pictures - Previs Concept Artist (2014 - 2017)
- Worked on previs concept art for the Award Winning, Lost in OZ.

EDUCATION
Computer Graphics Master Academy (2012)
- Completed with top grades in Environment Design for
video games and film course with the critically acclaimed
concept artist and instructor, James Paick.

Jump on a futuristic hover-ski to drift, boost, leap, dash, sign-ride, and even hack your way through mysterious reality storms on an emotional journey across the stars in this high-speed 3D Action Adventure Platformer with immersive hub worlds and hand painted art.

EXPOSÉ: The best in Contemporary Fantastic Art  (2017)
Selected to have a piece of concept art included in the science fiction category, as well as a nomination for the award in the category.

Spectrum: The best in Contemporary Fantastic Art  (2014) 
Selected from a pool of thousands to have 2 works included inthe concept art category.
ABOUT
Derek Weselake also known as Art of WEZ, is a seasoned concept artist based in Vancouver, Canada, with a decade of experience in the game, film, and animation industries. His expertise lies in creating universally appealing designs, evident through collaborations with renowned global companies like Capcom, Microsoft, Riot, Team Ninja, Discover Channel, SEGA, Smilegate, Disney, and more. While grounded in traditional 2D training and draftsmanship, Derek has evolved with the industry, integrating 3D software and game engines like Unreal into his workflow when applicable. To learn Unreal Derek started the solo development project "AENiGMA GAME: STORM HACKER" which has equipped him to not only understand the unique needs of every team member in a studio, but has also enabled him to conceptualize  ideas in a variety of new and innovative ways.
